It is no. longer news that the Nigeria have released their 28-man AFCON list. However what has become news is the omissions that characterized the list (high profile omissions at that).

Now let us look at the situation, starting with the omissions; 

Maduka Okoye

His omissions came as a huge surprise to a lot of people, the truth is no one saw his omission coming, but here are the few things we think led to his omission;

1. His suspension

Maduka Okoye was suspended by an Italian Federal Court over an alleged role in a betting troubles. He was suspended for two (2) months, and he just came back from his suspension. However, he was not found guilty, because if he had been found guilty he would have been suspended for a four (4) period.

Though he has played since his suspension elapsed but that toga of suspension linked to betting may have being the issue.

2. Injuries

Injuries have been a major issue in his career, until recently, he nursed one injury or the other. However he seems to have grown not just as a goalkeeper, but also as a man, he has learned how to manage himself while on duty.

3. Current form of others

The current forms of Uzoho, Nwabali and Amos seems to go unnoticed. Though, Okoye is in the form of his life right now, it somehow seems like the managers of the national team was someone else.

In conclusion, it seems that it is not yet time for Okoye to show himself on the international scene. His big break will come, he should also know that we are all heart broken not to have him on the plane to Morocco. He should not give up.
