Nigeria will be playing in the AFCON without Captain Troost Ekong. This is because Ekong recently announced that he has retired from the National Team after 12 years of great service to Nigeria. However, he promised to be in Morocco to cheer the team.

However, following his announcement, the mantle of leadership has now been placed on the shoulders of Wilfred Ndidi. Ndidi has been with the Super Eagles since 2015 and already has 71 caps in his belt.

He is the most senior player in the team by caps and probably by age. Though he is yet to score a goal for the national team, he has been a reliable presence in the team.
