It is no longer news that Nigeria through the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has submitted a serious petition against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) over the alleged involvement of players who are not clearly eligible to represent DRC in any international competition.

According to the news making rounds, the NFF is alleging that according to the constitution of the DRC, any person who switches allegiance from another country to DRC must first denounce his or her citizenship of the former country. This means that DRC according to her constitution does not allow dual citizenship.

The NFF is alleging that the DRC disregarded her constitution and even went further to deceive FIFA to grant permission for the players to switch. According to FIFA regulations, a player must show possession of a country’s passport before he or she will be granted change of nationality.

Meanwhile, the NFF is alleging that the DRC did not inform FIFA of the constitutional requirement that needs to be fulfilled by these players. As DRC needs her players to conform with her national standards before switching, in which case all these were not adhered to, and it is on this basis that the NFF is petitioning FIFA.
