It is no longer news that the CAF hammer has finally landed. The punishments being handed are indeed heavy for the two teams that met in the final.
The punishments have put to rest the talk of CAF being biased by many football fans across the continent. The truth is that many did not think that Morocco will be hit hard by CAF considering the subtle mind games they gave to their opponents before, during and after matches.

The fines on the Senegalese coach, Papa Thiaw, was not just heavy, it was equally loud for an individual. He was fined $100,000 and handed a 5 match suspension. This may likely affect his chances of coaching Senegal at the World Cup if FIFA chooses to uphold CAF decisions are to global level which is most likely to happen if we are to take into consideration FIFA president’s social media post condemning the chaotic scene that played out at the CAF AFCON.

Ismailia Sarr and Cheik Ndiaye were both suspended for their charge at the referee during the chaotic moment. They were suspended for two CAF matches each. It worth noting that they were present for the ruling. Meanwhile the Senegal Footbalwas fined a total of $615,000 as a result of the actions of the fans, players and technical crew during the match.
Morocco on their part were not left out of the punishment largesse of CAF as the Football Federation of Morocco was fined a total of $315,000 for the chaos their fans, technical crew and ball boys brought to the match on that day.

Also, Ismael Saibari got a $100,000 fine for his role in aiding the ball boys take the goalkeeper’s towel and a 3 match suspension. While Achraf Hakimi was seen in a viral video tossing the goalkeeper’s towel to the ball boys. He got a two match suspension with one of those being a suspended suspension for a year.
These suspensions and fines are to serve as a lesson for players, fans and federations ahead of the future tournaments.
